“In ‘Poetics of Relation’, Édouard Glissant emphasises a connectedness and solidarity that is based on the recognition of difference and is always relational - it is founded on the awareness that identity is always created through contact, exchange and encounters with others. Solidarity arises through the sharing of stories, through the recognition of pain, violence and memory - but also through shared visions for the future. When we act, we always act from our point of view, from our local position: but this action should be open to the relations of the world and consider global references. Our place is the starting point, not the centre. By coming together tonight we insist on the importance of gathering and standing up for the people and especially the children in Gaza and Sudan.”
